Ming Dynasty
15th Century Blue and White Bowl
14.2 centimeters diameter, 7.3 centimeters
height
Fine condition
Decoration featuring an aquatic scene, possibly
a lotus pond. Four carp swimming among delicate strands of water-fern and
other various underwater plants. Different shades of wash within a finely
detailed outline. The interior with a band below the lip of a trellis-diaper
type pattern similar to that found on earlier Yuan ware.
This delicate bowl was excavated from a site on the
border between China and Burma. Pieces from this site were identified as
being from the 13th through the 15th century, which means it could possibly
be from the earlier Yuan dynasty. The glazed base and decoration however
suggests middle Ming, possibly Jiajing. |
