Early Ming Dynasty Bowl

Blue and White Floral Motif

15.4 centimeters diameter, 6.7 centimeters height

Fair Condition

Exterior decorated with camellia floral scroll, the interior with a flower basket of a stylized spray of three peony buds and leaves within a double circle.

A trellis diaper band lines the inner rim.  Though not of Imperial quality, a beautiful piece in it's own right that shows the grace and feeling of the Chinese potter and artisan.

Some iron oxide discoloration from the firing. Damage to lip prior to firing. Glaze cracking is visible. This possibly represents the transition from the absence of glaze to the base of the Hongwu and Yongle periods to the glazed base of the Xuande.
